Bird Class


Type: Patrol steamer.
Displacement: 96 Imperial tons.
Length: 86 ft 7 in (26.3 m).
Beam: 18 ft 5 in (5.4 m).
Draught: 10 ft 8 in (3.35 m).
Propulsion: Triple expansion reciprocating steam engine. 1 Shaft.
Speed: 13 kn (24 km/h).
Complement: 9 Officers and men.
Armament: 1 x 37 mm (1.5 in) gun.

The Bird class were built at the Tesereau Ship Yard at Moratala from 2178 to 2180. Nine vessels were built,with five being bought into service with the Imperial Navy. These are Gannet. Petrel. Guillemot. Cormorant. Gull. The class is popular with inshore units due to its shallow draught and ease of handling.
