Hornet


Type: Gun boat destroyer
Displacement: 625 Imperial tons.
Length: 237 ft 6 in (72.39 m).
Beam: 36 ft (11 m).
Draught: 4 ft (1.2 m).
Propulsion: 2 x Expansion turbines. 2 x Water tube boilers. 2 x Shafts.
Speed: 21 knots (24 mph; 39 km/h).
Complement: 55 Officers and men.
Armament: 2 x 6 in (152 mm) guns. 2 x 12 pdr (76mm) guns. 2 x Machine guns.
Armour: 3 in (76 mm) on the sides. 2 in (51 mm) on deck. 3 in (76 mm) on the conning tower.

Built at the Cannard and Burnsharp shipyard in Aquilea, and launched in 2186, Hornet, is one of the new Wasp class gun boat destroyers, a type of vessel that has only recently been developed with the purpose of countering torpedo gun boats. The Wasp class is both armoured and fast but as yet unproved in combat. Hornet was the first of this type to be assigned to the Northern Fleet and her sister ships Comet and Fury are due to be deployed to the fleet shortly. Hornet is commanded by Captain Jake Fitchingpot.
