Launched in 2180 from the Marteau et Des-Pinces shipyard at Naviana, Cyclone is the largest vessel serving in the Northern Fleet. Designed to undertake long cruises into foreign waters for the purpose of destroying commercial vessels, especially if war was to occur between Regnia and Sinopia, Cyclone was transferred to the Northern Fleet in 2185 as Flag Ship to the Fleet Vice Admiral and subsequently dispateched to patrol the Styrian Straits, the Kama Sea, and to transport expeditionary troops to Port Heelverweg. Commentators have observed that Cyclone, despite her imposing size, was already obsolete at the time of her launch due to her inferior armament and light armour. Three subsequent sister ships had been planned but were cancelled in favour of the heavier Hunter class. In 2188 Cyclone's commanding officer is Captain Sir Jon Jervis Acre.
Cyclone's machinery was built by the Carton-Découpé Engine Works at the Marteau et Des-Pinces shipyard. She has two inverted vertical triple expansion steam engines with a total designed output of 25,000 horsepower. On trials in 2181, she reached a speed of 22 knots (41.0 km/h), and her engines and boilers are still in excellent condition. She carries a maximum load of 3,000 tons of coal giving her a range of 7000 nuatical miles (13000 km) at 14 knots (26 km/h). Cyclone carries two Radiant-6 electric dynamos to power her searchlights and provide interior lighting.
